Six Indicted in Organized Crime Ring

It took 15 months, spanned six Texas counties and recovered over $700,000 in stolen construction equipment. Now six people are behind bars.

According to Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon, the investgation begin in June of 2008, when his office received a call from a Houston business owner, who said one of his backhoes had been stolen from a job site near Houston. The backhoe was equipped with a tracking device and it was traced to a residence in Lavaca County.

From there, Sheriff Harmon says the investigation ballooned and his office starting getting more calls about stolen equipment. DPS motor vehicle theft investigators came onboard to help and the two agencies cracked the case.

A Lavaca County Grand Jury indicted all six suspects on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity.
